Chris Heegard, Ph.D; Chairman
Dr. Chris Heegard has served
as Chairman of the Board since Alantro's inception, and is also CEO of
Alantro Communications. He is a well-known expert in the field of
Communications Theory and has over 20 years of experience in the
communications industry. Dr. Heegard is an IEEE Fellow, an honorable
distinction that exemplifies the widely held respect among the top
scientists in the industry. He is one of the foremost experts in Forward
Error Control (FEC) and is highly sought after as a consultant. Among his
many patents and inventions are the V.34 Modem Standard and the ITU J83.b
Cable Modem Standard (IEEE 802.14). Dr. Heegard has been on the faculty at
the School of Engineering, Cornell University since 1981 and has been both
a visiting Professor and Scientist at the California Institute of
Technology and the IBM Almaden Research Center. He was also Founder and
Chief Scientist for Native Intelligence,
a digital communications software
company. Dr. Heegard has BS and MS degrees in Electrical and Computer
Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, and a Ph.D. in Electrical
Engineering from Stanford University.
Eric J. Rossin, Ph.D
Eric Rossin has served on the board since Alantro's inception, and is also
President of Alantro Communications. Dr. Rossin brings over 15 years of
telecommunications engineering and management expertise to the company.
Prior to co-founding Alantro Communications, Dr. Rossin served as Principal
Engineer with Next Level Communications, where he designed and managed a
number of projects, including a high-speed cable modem for the
fiber-to-the-curb system. As Project Manager at Applied Signal Technology,
he managed various modem and systems projects, with budgets of several
millions of dollars. He is a highly sought after consultant, and has
created modem and systems designs for Intelidata Technologies, AetherWorks,
and General Instruments. Dr. Rossin received his BSEE, MEng, and Ph.D.EE
from Cornell University.
Herbert M. Dwight, Jr.
Mr. Dwight was elected to the
board in May, 1999. He is also currently Chairman of the Board of Optical
Coating Laboratories, Inc. (Nasdaq: OCLI), the world's largest independent
manufacturer of optical thin film coatings, and is the former CEO of that
company. Before joining OCLI, he served as CEO of Superconductor
Technologies. Previously, he founded one of the first laser companies,
Spectra Physics, and served as CEO for 27 years before another company
bought it in 1988. He brings over 40 years of corporate experience to
Alantro.
Beth Weisburn, Ph.D
Dr. Weisburn has served on the
board since Alantro's inception. She has been involved in the development
of communications and image processing equipment for over 15 years. Dr.
Weisburn has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.
Matt Ocko
Matt Ocko has over sixteen years of experience as a technology
entrepreneur, operating executive, and venture capitalist.
As an entrepreneur and operating
executive, Mr. Ocko has created successful technology product franchises from the ground up.
As a venture capitalist, he has been an active and hands-on partner for many entrepreneurs from the
earliest stages of their ventures through successful maturation thereof.
Prior to VantagePoint, Mr. Ocko was a founding general partner
of SOFTBANK Technology Ventures;
prior to SOFTBANK, Mr. Ocko was a general partner of Helix Investments.
Mr. Ocko was the founder of Da Vinci Systems Corporation.
Mr. Ocko has lectured and consulted globally on high-tech venture capital. Over the past several
years, he has been deeply involved with the development of venture capital in the Peoples' Republic
of China.
Mr. Ocko holds a B.A. in Physics (with Thesis) from Yale University.
